BereshitThe Stewardship ParadigmBy CHIEF RABBI DR. JONATHAN SACKS While the creation narrative clearly establishes God as Master of the Universe, it is the human being who is appointed master of the earth. If we see our role as masters of the earth as a unique opportunity to truly serve and care for the planet, its creatures and its resources, then we can reclaim our status as stewards of the world and raise future generations in an environment much closer to that of Eden. Where are You? What are You Doing to Change the World?By RABBI ELLIOT ROSE KUKLA Parashat Bereshit teaches us that within the fabric of creation there are moments for silence, space, and rejuvenation. And there moments to act. The new year is a time for action. We must take collective responsibility to ensure human dignity and to help the sick, poor, and disenfranchised worldwide. Am I My Brother's Keeper?By RABBI DAVID ROSENN God does not directly answer Cain's question about being his brother's keeper. Perhaps the entire Torah answers yes, a running commentary on our responsibility to one another.
