Looking for the Perfect Mother’s Day Gift?

SocialAction.com Suggests…

  • Lift the spirits of a woman in need. Jewish Women International delivers fresh bouquets to more than 150 battered women's shelters across America through its Mother's Day Flower Project. For a contribution of $25 or more, JWI will send a beautiful Mother's Day card to a special woman in your life, letting let her know that a donation has been made in her name.
  • Support the Jewish Funds for Justice, the only national Jewish organization solely committed to fighting poverty in America, and JFJ will acknowledge your gift with a lovely Tribute Card. JFJ’s motto is “Increasing Tzedakah increases peace.” Act now.
  • Serve Fair Trade coffee as part of breakfast-in-bed on Mother’s Day. The American Jewish World Service lists global grassroots organizations from which you can order fair trade, kosher, and organic coffee. Your Mother’s Day Cup of Joe (Joseph) will help promote a more equitable system of international trade while benefiting the poor—part of our mission as socially concerned Jews.

Mother’s Day Trivia

Did you know that Jewish Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 11th day of Cheshvan (autumn), the day on which the Jewish matriarch Rachel died. Of course it’s not an official holiday, like American Mother’s Day, but in celebration of Jewish mothers everywhere, a website was created.

What famous mother said:

"At work, you think of the children you have left at home. At home, you think of the work you've left unfinished. Such a struggle is unleashed within yourself. Your heart is rent.”

It was Golda Meir, the first (and, to date, only) female Prime Minister of Israel.
