Yom HaZicharon, Israel Memorial Day - 4 Iyar

Easy Ways To Make A Differenceremote website

Areyvut offers a unique opportunity for schools and young people to create innovative and meaningful programs that make a difference in the lives of Israelis during Yom HaZicharon and Yom HaAztmaut.

The Ziv Tzedakah Fundremote website

The Ziv Tzedakah Fund, founded by Danny Siegel, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the collection and distribution of funds to various little known tzedakah (charitable) projects in Israel. The Fund provides money and support for individuals and programs that offer direct, significant, and immediate services with a minimum of overhead and bureaucracy. Two examples of these groups are:

  • The Non-Profit Organization (Amuta) for the Emotional Support of Girlfriends (fiancées) of Fallen Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Soldiers. Today, thanks to the work of this amuta, the State of Israel recognizes the girlfriend/fiancée as a legitimate survivor and cooperates with the organization in helping to identify the girlfriend/fiancée so that they can be offered support in this difficult time.
  • The Fund for the IDF 5th Regiment (Agudah leMa’an Hativah 5) After the terrorist attack on Netanya’s Park Hotel on Passover 2002, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) moved into Jenin, the nerve center of so many terror attacks. Twenty-three Israeli soldiers were killed. When the battles were over, Major Rafi Laderman, third in command during the operation, and his fellow soldiers established the Fund to take care of families of those who were killed and wounded, as well as families of other soldiers from the regiment who had died in previous wars.

The Ziv Tzedakah Fund highly recommends a beautifully written book, A Psalm in Jenin, by Brett Goldberg. Mr. Goldberg spent many months interviewing the soldiers who fought in Jenin as well as their families and the families of those who were killed. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the book go to the Fund for the IDF 5th Regiment’s work.
